That is because each individual private jet has a unique set of specs. They include speed, range, luggage capacity and seating configuration. If one private jet is faster or has more range than another, even if it is in the same class, the hourly rate can be higher.

Private jets are quoted with navigational software. They are supposed to be quoted using realistic flight times. A medium and a heavy jet can have very different speeds. The time and the speed you are being quoted need to be reasonable so you are not hit with an extra charge at the end of your flight.

Make sure you find out what your quote includes. Some items that could be in a quote are a federal excise tax, airport landing fees, fuel surcharges, a ramp fee and positioning fees. Again, if you don’t ask the right questions, you could be in for an unpleasant experience when you see the invoice. Make sure the quote you receive is all inclusive.

• Light Jets: Average price per hour is from $1,800 to $2,600
• Mid-Size Jets: Average price per hour is from $2,700 to $4,000
• Super Mid-Size Jets: Average price per hour is from $3,500 to $3,800
• Heavy Jets: Average price per hour is from $4,000 to $5,800
• Long Range Jets: Average price per hour is from $7,500 to $8,000

If you work with a good jet charter firm you may be able to obtain special pricing on deals that can arise from empty leg flights (flights between scheduled flights) or one way flights.

So, even more so than with commercial forms of air travel it really pays to perform due diligence when you are pricing the hourly cost of a private charter jet.
