How Much Luggage Can I Bring
When deciding how much luggage to bring onto your private charter jet, keep in mind that the capacity of jets is different than commercial flights. That means there are different restrictions. And recently, commercial flights have begun charging for checked and carry-on luggage.
This is a comparison of luggage restrictions for commercial and private jets.
Luggage Requirements- Commercial Flights
This is subject to change at anytime but for now, following are the luggage requirements/restrictions for commercial flights:
- Carry-On: Any clear toiletries must be less than 3 ounces and placed in a clear baggie. Prescriptions and other medicines are allowed. Baby formula is also allowed if it is more than 3 ounces. Most sharp objects are not allowed. Cell phones and other personal communication devices are also allowed.
The luggage has to be less than 40 pounds. It cannot exceed 51 linear inches. It must be checked by security prior to boarding the plane. Also, some airlines are assessing an extra charge for carry-on bags.
- Checked Baggage: It is best if checked-in luggage is less than 50 pounds. If it’s more than that, you may incur an overweight fee. 62 linear inches is the size limit.
Luggage requirements- Private Jets
While there are no luggage restrictions, the size and the amount of luggage you can bring on a jet depends on the aircraft size, class and type. For example, light jets that carry up to eight passengers may only be able to accommodate one bag per person. If you are travelling on a mid-size jet, you can usually take one standard suitcase or two smaller bags per passenger. Again, this is with eight passengers on the plane.
If you have fewer passengers, you will be able to take more luggage. In fact, the luggage situation with a private jet is very customized. If you want to bring skis, golf clubs or a guitar, the coordinator for your flight will devise a solution that will best accommodate your baggage needs.
So, when you’re making trip arrangements on a private charter jet, luggage is something to consider. On the super mid-size, heavy and long-range jets, baggage may not be much of an issue because those planes are larger.
Whatever size plane you select, you will not be bound by all the restrictions that are present and can be so annoying when you travel on a commercial flight.
