Airport Security and Private Jets

One of the true advantages to flying in a private charter jet on a trip is the difference in security between that and a commercial flight. There is no waiting in long security lines. No snaking between ropes. No taking the shoes off.

The process when taking a private jet is actually very pleasant.

Fixed Based Operator (FBO)

If you are unfamiliar with that term you will become used to it as a private jet traveler. An FBO is a service center. It is set apart from the main commercial airport terminals and is a much smaller facility. FBO’s service executive aircraft. They also are designed to be a waiting area for those passengers flying on private aircraft.

The larger airports may have more than one FBO. No matter what kind of airport, the facilities can be located close to the main terminals. However, in some cases, they are located farther away from the airport. It is a good idea to make sure you know where your FBO is prior to the day of travel to make sure you understand where you have to be.

The Private Jet Tail Number

Another piece of information you will need to know is the tail number of your airplane. A tail number is similar to a plate number on an automobile. Each aircraft has a unique identifying number. The first letter of the number indicates the aircraft country of origin. For example, for the United States, the unique identifier is the letter “N”.

The Private Jet Boarding Process

Now that you know what an FBO is and what the private jet tail number is, you are ready to board. When you get to the FBO you will be asked for the tail number. This will match you with your pilots. When you present the tail number to the FBO representative, your pilot will be informed of your arrival. You will then be escorted to your jet.

Security

You can show up at your departure time (not two hours ahead of time), present your tail number, board and go.

Remember, as on commercial flights, the pilot is the ultimate authority. He or she can demand security inspections as strict as the airports do. However, the reality is that in most instances you will be allowed to board before any security or more in depth ID checks occur.

The security procedure is definitely one of the perks of travelling via a private charter jet.
